Our teen modern-contemporary group have recently performed this past weekend in Bogeste's show. We were invited to be guest performers by Tania Boudreau who is the owner of this neighbouring dance school. It was a great performance opportunity for the girls, and a great example to set within the community that we CAN all work together.

Our show will be taking place the 19th & 20th of May at BHS. The show on the 19th will take place at 6:30pm, and the show on the 20th will take place at 2:00pm. Tickets are now on sale, $12 for adults and $10 for children under 10 & seniors. All of our students have been working hard to produce the show, and I am so extremely proud of how far they have come in just one year!! Here are some pictures of a sneak peak from our teen contemporary piece called "Shift to Shove".

I think it is also safe to say that I have been so extremely busy that it is really difficult to find the time to do so.

We had a small but very successful summer session. I feel very privileged that I was able to get to know and teach the great group of kids who were with us for the first session. Most of the students have continued on with us for the fall semester, which begins next Monday, along with a strong number of new registrations as well. I cannot wait to start teaching again, and it will be a huge relief after the last few weeks full of desk work!

More updates to come soon!

Renovation of the space is nearing completion and I couldn't be more excited to see the finished product.

As I write this I am listening to the drills go as my husband and father in law finish the installation of the floor. I have been trying my best not to dance on it before it is completely finished in fear of doing any damage before it is completed, but I must admit I have cheated a little bit and it feels AMAZING to jump on.

It is really times like these that I remember why i moved back to this community. There is no way I would have been able to get everything done without all the help of friends and family. It is been an "interesting" few weeks. For example, the reception desk would not fit up the stairs and we had to cut it in half in the parking lot in order to fit it into the building. This is a funny story now...but at the time, I was definitely not laughing. My aunt Sharon and uncle Gilles of Music City have also been an incredible help. Between the fantastic music system, help with construction of the desk, and Sharon's ability to brainstorm with me and help with many tasks within the studio, I think they both saved me from levels of high stress. My thank you list could go on and on, but I must also commend my amazing father in law (samuel Chiasson) in his construction skills (and help) with the floor and the beautiful ballet barres he has built.

Lastly, I cannot wait to start teaching next week. The kids, parents, and adult students I have met so far throughout registration all seem to be excited to begin the session, and have great attitudes.

In one way this seems like a long time away because I cannot wait to begin teaching, but in another, there are countless things to do and not enough time in the day.

I will be using this blog so that people who are interested in reading about what is going on can check back regularly. I will do my best to keep you all updated often! So far the floor has been ordered and is expected to get here in early June. This is the most important element of the studio for me, because I think that it is SO important that we take care of our bodies and dance on the best we can.

Most recently I have been teaching the students in the dance and culture class at ESN and they have been an amazing source of inspiration for me. They are all extremely talented youth who have really been working hard with me. I love that some of the students have previous dance training at the other studios in the area, while others have no training at all. I think that the mix of dance experience is great because the students are able to share their experiences with each other in an atmosphere that allows them to explore their ideas of movement. When I first began working with the group there was a lot of hesitation, but now in every class I have with them, I can feel their growing enthusiasm and it really is evident in the work they are producing. At the same time, the kids are teaching me a lot regarding french. I wish there was less of a language barrier, but I am working on it!

Something else I have done recently that I've really enjoyed was speaking as a mentor for the Synergies Mentorship Program. It was really neat to be able to share my thoughts on creative process within choreography to the group who came out, whether they knew much about dance or not. This is something I love so much about this community. I feel that everyone wants to support each other and see the area grow, and this is something I hope I can contribute to with movement.workshop.
